Embedded Visual KPI dashboard.
Real-Time Operations Meets Business Analytics
If you and your teams already use Microsoft Power BI to track business performance, finance, and corporate KPIs, then you’ve nailed the “after the fact” or reporting view. But when you want to see what’s happening right now—on the plant floor, in the field, or across all your assets and data sources—Visual KPI handles it with ease.
Now you can have both. By embedding live Visual KPI dashboards or other visualizations directly into Power BI using the Web Content tile, you get a single dashboard that unites live operational intelligence with your existing business analytics. No coding, no connectors, and no waiting.
This simple integration gives executives, analysts, and operations teams a single pane of glass that blends live operational data with business performance metrics for the best of both worlds.
Why It Matters
- Live, always up to date: Visual KPI dashboards are real-time by design. Embedded views update automatically and move as your data does—no refreshing required.
- Leverage your existing Power BI investment: Integrate without additional licenses, APIs, or connectors.
- Total visibility: Unite operational KPIs (safety, production, uptime) with business KPIs (costs, financials, ESG) in one place.
- Any device, anywhere: Visual KPI works seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile, both inside Power BI or in any browser.
Step-by-Step: Embed Visual KPI into a Power BI Dashboard
- Create an Embed-Optimized URL for Your Visual KPI Dashboard
In your browser, open the Visual KPI dashboard you want to embed (for example, a production overview or site summary view).
Click once in your browser’s address bar to edit the URL.
Right before any question mark (?) or query parameters, simply add the word embed to the end of the path.
For example, if your normal URL looks like this:
https://demo.transpara.com/PowerGen/?pid=0
you would change it to:
https://demo.transpara.com/PowerGen/embed?pid=0
This “embed” version removes navigation bars and menus, producing a clean, frameless display optimized for embedding.
You can embed any Visual KPI view — whether it’s a full, top-level dashboard or a single chart, gauge, or trend. Both work perfectly inside Power BI using the same simple steps below.
- Open Your Power BI Dashboard
Navigate to your Power BI dashboard (note: this is different from a Power BI Report).
If you already have a dashboard, open it for editing.
Don’t have a dashboard yet?
No problem—creating one is quick:
- Go to https://app.powerbi.com.
- In the left-hand pane, click Create.
- Under Other items you can create with Microsoft Fabric, click See all.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Dashboard.
- Enter a name for your new dashboard and click Create.
You now have a blank Power BI dashboard ready for embedding your Visual KPI visualization.
- Add a Web Content Tile
Click the Edit dropdown in the top menu and select + Add a tile.
Select Web Content and click Next.
In the Embed Code field, paste the following HTML snippet, replacing the src URL with your own:
<iframe
src=”https://demo.transpara.com/PowerGen/embed?pid=0″
width=”100%”
height=”100%”
style=”border:none;”
allowfullscreen>
</iframe>
This tells Power BI to render the Visual KPI dashboard responsively within the tile, taking up the full available space.
- a. Add a Custom Link to the Full Visual KPI Dashboard
To make it easy for users to open the full Visual KPI experience (with navigation, menus, and all available features), you can add a custom link to your tile. This link appears as a clickable title at the top of the tile in Power BI.
- While editing your Web Content tile, scroll down to the Functionality section.
- Turn on Set custom link.
- Under Link type, select External link.
- In the URL field, paste your original Visual KPI dashboard URL — the version without the /embed/ portion.
- Under Open custom link in the same tab?, select No to open the link in a new tab. This makes it seamless to switch back and forth between your Power BI dashboard and the full Visual KPI user interface without losing your place in either view.
When you save the tile, the title text becomes a clickable link. Clicking it will open the full Visual KPI dashboard (with navigation, hierarchy, and menus) in a new tab, giving users the option to explore or interact beyond the embedded view.
This simple addition makes the experience smooth and connected—users can monitor live Visual KPI data inside Power BI and instantly jump to the full Visual KPI environment when they need more detail or control.
- Apply and Save
Click Apply and then Save your dashboard.
That’s it! You now have a live, real-time Visual KPI dashboard embedded directly inside Power BI—with a built-in link to jump straight into the full Visual KPI view when needed.
Example Use Cases
- Executives: Monitor operations, safety, and financial KPIs side-by-side in one unified dashboard.
- Operations Managers: Compare production or asset uptime with cost and yield metrics.
- Sustainability Teams: Combine live emissions and energy usage data with ESG analytics.
Tips for the Best Experience
- Always use the /embed/ form of your Visual KPI URL for a clean look.
- If your site requires authentication, ensure users have access or are logged in via SSO.
- You can embed multiple Visual KPI dashboards or single KPIs in different tiles.
- Not a Power BI user, or want to embed Visual KPI visualizations in other tools? It works in any app that supports iframes (so go for it!).
The Outcome: Real-Time Operations Meets Business Intelligence
By embedding Visual KPI dashboards into Power BI, you bridge the gap between business analysis and real-time operations.
You get the live context of Transpara combined with the rich storytelling of Power BI, helping every level of your organization make faster, smarter decisions.
